Priya Loves Apple Slices and Leaves

Priyavrata is a lover of sliced apple treats and tree leaves. Although there is plenty of grass to eat Priya likes to add to his diet. Priya has been quite peaceful and relaxed although he is king of the herd and has the personality to go with that position. He is also healthy and happy at the ISCOWP Sanctuary. By the way, Priyavrata is his full name but we call him Priya for short.

Training Oxen by Voice Commands Lesson 2 The Halter

William E. Dove (president of ISCOWP and also known as Balabhadra das) is available  to answer any questions about the training process. You may ask here in the comment section or email at

More lessons will be coming soon. This is the second in a series that is published on our YouTube channel ISCOWP108. The main reason to be teaching oxen how to do useful work and obey commands is to show their usefulness as an alternative to their slaughter. To many the ox or steer has no purpose but for the price he may bring in the meat industry.

Kalindi Vijaya and Her Boyfriends

Kalindi Vijaya is one of our rescue dairy cows. She is the star of the video "Joyfully Free From the Dairy." Some of our subscribers have asked how she is doing since she was rescued in 2015.

Kalindi Vijaya is doing well. This video will give you some idea of her life at ISCOWP.

This spring Kalindi has two boyfriends: Priyavrata and Narayana. They are rescues also. It has been two years since Kalindi was rescued, 5 years since Narayana was rescued and 9 years since Priyavrata was rescued. They have been and are living a peaceful life at the ISCOWP farm where they will live out their natural lives.

This video represents the spring update for Kalindi, Priyavrata and Narayana. Most of the spring was very dry, in fact we were in a drought. now the rains have come and it is raining everyday. The video clips that show bright green pasture are a result of just a few days of rain.

Rescued Ox Runs and Plays

Akshobhya was rescued in 2014. He remains a very friendly ox and is one of the oxen who loves his sweet treats. He also loves to tussle with his friends. In this video you can see him playing with Lila and then Abhay.

The grass has just about turned all brown due to winter arriving. However, Akshobhya is able to find some green grass and plants growing under the trees that he can eat.

Akshobhya is healthy and happy.

Winter Arati and Joyful Cows

On the auspicious day of Lord Nityananda's appearance we offered arati to the cows. Instead of offering treats also, we let the rescued calves out of their barn for the first time. We also opened the gates for the rest of the herd to let them onto another pasture so they would be getting new grass to eat. Although it is winter there is still some nibbles to eat.

On the way to the new pasture the herd had the opportunity to meet the new rescued calves for the first time. The babies had been in the barn and the cows had been restricted to the pasture where they could not access the barn area.

All the cows were very happy and continue to be happy with new energetic friends, a change of scenery and new nibbles.

Rescued Calf Feels Fear Then Joy

This Gir calf was rescued from a breeder just before she was about to be dehorned and branded. Even though her horns will grow towards the back of her head and not to the front, where they could be used as a weapon, dehorning would have been done. Dehorning is a painful and bloody process.

Branding is done with a hot iron and on the other cows with this breeder the brand was large.

We are thankful to ISCOWP members for helping us save her from this abuse. Her name is now Sri Vasanti and she is now living happily at the ISCOWP farm.

This video shows her arrival . She was afraid and guarded when she came and then eventually became joyful.

Currently she has no adopter and can be adopted at:
